NEW YORK, NY – Priests for Life today called on the U.S. Senate to take action on a bill that would protect children from abortion after 20 weeks.
Commenting on the death of Lakisha Wilson, 22, following what her family described as a late-term abortion at the Preterm Abortion Clinic in Cleveland, Father Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, said:
“This bill is meant to protect unborn children from the brutal and painful death of a dismemberment abortion, but it also would save the young mothers who are often butchered during this procedure. Lakisha Wilson had her whole life ahead of her but she died because our nation still allows abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy.
“The Wilson family’s tragedy is the shame of our nation.” Dr. Alveda King, Director of African-American Outreach for Priests for Life, noted that abortion is decimating the African-American community. Black women who make up just 13 percent of the population account for 36 percent of the abortions. And black mothers also are counted among abortion’s victims.
“Lakisha Wilson is a victim of ‘choice,’ just like Tonya Reaves was in 2012 when Planned Parenthood let her bleed to death after a botched abortion,” Dr. King said. “Our women are dying and people like Nancy Pelosi are calling for more abortion. America needs to recognize it has a problem. Abortion is never the answer.”
Janet Morana, Executive Director of Priests for Life, said Americans are outraged when automakers and pharmaceutical companies fail to recall products they know are deadly, but that abortionists get a pass.
“How many dead women are too many? Four women that we know of have been killed by abortionists in the last two years alone,” said Ms. Morana, author of the book, “Recall Abortion.”
“Abortion is a harmful product that should be taken off the market before one more woman dies,” she said. “It is way past time to recall abortion.”
